Could toxic chemicals be leaching from pots and pans into your food?
Recent research suggests that what you cook and store your food in—not just the ingredients you use—may have an effect on your health and wellbeing.
Avoid Bisphenol A (BPA): This chemical is prevalent in many plastics, such as bottles, containers, and the lining of most canned foods. BPA can leach into food and beverages, particularly when the container is heated. Even organic and seemingly healthy canned goods, like vegetable soup, tuna, and baby food, have been found to contain BPA at low levels. Long-term low-level exposure to BPA is associated with infertility, attention deficit disorder, thyroid problems, obesity, breast and prostate cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. As an endocrine disruptor, BPA may also pose risks for early puberty, with pregnant women, babies, and young children being the most vulnerable.
